AMC Open Competition 2006

Several members of the AMC gliding fraternity have for years entered BARCS Open competitions, but had not run one to “do our bit” until this year.  BARCS is the specialist body that manages the various classes of competition gliding, and various clubs around the country have run Opens the scores of which form the competitor’s league score, initially within a region. At “Radioglide” each year a national champion is established being the winner of a Fly-off between the top 3 or 4 from each region.

For many years the members wanted to run an open but never really had the site to be able to do so, I for one always felt guilty for this feeling we were not doing our bit, especially as we were by far the largest group from any single club.

The event was attended by 30 entrants from several counties from the Southern half of the country, some travelling as far as 60 miles to join us, and many of them the countries top flyers. Its frightening to think that with 30 entrants each with at least 2 models and a number of winches, the hardware on show would cost around £40,000.00!!

The overall winner was Chris Moynihan a past Chairman of BARCS and the secretary of another club that we are closely associated with, TVSF, there site is located north of Bracknell towards Maidenhead.

We intend to run at least one event each year now as it also raises some money towards the considerable costs of maintaining the three winches we use.
